Internship, as a primary specialization, is a necessary stage in professional postgraduate education of physicians and pharmacists. Its aim is to improve the practical and professional skills of medical specialists after graduation and to prepare them for independent professional activities on the basic medical and pharmaceutical specialties, defined by the relevant orders of Ukraine.
Duration of internship comprises 1-3 years and is determined by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine depending on their specialization.
Preparation for internship is carried out on the following specialties: obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology and intensive therapy, dermatology, general practice – family medicine, infectious diseases, sports medicine, medicine of emergency conditions, neurology, neurosurgery, clinical oncology, orthopedics and traumatology, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, pathological anatomy, psychiatry, radiology, forensic-medical examination, internal medicine, urology, pulmonology and phthisiology, surgery, pediatric surgery, neonatology, pediatrics, general hygiene, epidemiology, dentistry, general pharmacy, medical psychology.
Internship as a form of post-graduate education is available only for Ukrainian citizens who have received the qualification of Specialist in Medicine, Stomatology, Pharmacy, Pediatrics, Medical-Preventive Work or Medical Psychology.
After internship study, medical specialist is assigned with a qualification of “physician” or “pharmacist” with the indication of basic primary specialty, which gives him/her the right to take the appropriate medical position in accordance with the approved list of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
