OET now recognised in Ukraine

OET, the English language test for healthcare professionals now recognised in Ukraine.

The Occupational English Test (OET) is now recognised in Ukraine by

giving healthcare professionals in the region an opportunity to improve their career prospects.

By attaining the required OET Grade, as set by the respective recognising bodies in Ukraine, as a means to prove English language proficiency, healthcare professionals who have received their medical education outside Ukraine but are willing to practice on the territory of Ukraine, can satisfy registration requirements, with the added advantage of choosing an exam that is aligned to their profession in order to do so.

Jointly owned by the UK’s Cambridge Assessment English and Australia’s Box Hill Institute, OET is well established and recognised by authorities in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Dubai and Namibia.

OET CEO, Sujata Stead, said: “We commend the three recognising organisations for their commitment to the healthcare sector in Ukraine”.

“Unlike other English tests, OET test materials are based on real healthcare scenarios so educators and employers can be confident that successful candidates have the level of English communication skills required for safe and high-quality patient care,” she concluded.

“Fortunately, we have been granted this opportunity to take another vital step in improving the conditions for the development of our healthcare professionals. From now on all healthcare practitioners will not only master their English language skills but will also be able to improve their knowledge and attitude in becoming better healthcare professionals. With OET specifically designed for various healthcare fields, medical workers finally have the chance to feel more natural and confident in doing the language test that is related to their area of work. And we do believe that OET will be strongly rooted in Ukraine for all the benefits it offers its examinees”- stated Dr.Bilan, the President of Ukrainian Medical Council.”

Norway’s Directorate of Health Joins ECFMG’s EPIC

Partnership Enhances Process for Evaluating the Medical Education Credentials of Norway’s International Medical Graduates

PHILADELPHIA, UNITED STATES—The Norwegian Directorate of Health (Directorate) and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®) are pleased to announce their collaboration to incorporate ECFMG’s Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPICSM) into the process for assessing the medical education credentials of Norway’s international medical graduates (IMGs), those physicians who completed their medical education outside of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA). The Directorate is responsible for granting authorization required for all categories of professions within the legally regulated health sector in Norway. Effective September 1, the Directorate requires all IMGs applying for registration to have their medical education credentials primary-source verified through EPIC.
Before September 1, 2016, the Directorate obtained primary-source verification of IMG credentials through ECFMG’s International Credentials Services (EICS). EPIC provides the Directorate with the same rigorous primary-source verification that ECFMG delivers through EICS, and additional benefits not available through EICS. These include a secure, web-based platform for authenticating the credentials of its applicants, along with paperless processing and recordkeeping. For IMGs, EPIC offers a service that they can use throughout their careers to build a digital portfolio of verified credentials related to their medical education, training, and registration/licensure. Using EPIC, IMGs can request reports demonstrating the authenticity of their credentials for organizations worldwide, including regulatory authorities and potential employers, such as hospitals and academic
institutions. EPIC also enables IMGs to submit their credentials for verification electronically, eliminating postal costs and potential transit delays, as well as reducing processing times.
